Our author and illustrator, Kathleen Arthur, was born and raised in the Deep South. She grew up in a home filled with love and laughter on a street named Hillsboro. It was there that she learned the art of humorous storytelling from grown-ups.
Arthur is proof that you can retire from one profession and begin a new one on the opposite end of the spectrum. In her 30-year career as an Official Court Reporter in both Federal and State Court, she reported over 4,000 trials verbatim. Nowadays, the stories she writes are completely made up.
Arthur studied art privately for many years under Nationally-known artist Margaret Hand. Her traditional book illustrations are rendered in acrylic. She has won numerous awards for her art, and the "Gallery" page is frequently updated with her paintings.
Arthur and her family live in Arizona. When she's not writing and creating art, she enjoys playing the piano, cooking, and staying away from courthouses.

Our "Focused On Shapes" book is made for babies under one year of age. A baby's visual acuity is only 20/400 at one month of age, increasing to around 20/100 at six months of age. The pictures in most children's books are too detailed for babies, so we only included bold, high-contrast images with an emphasis on specific colors. There are no written words so that babies can zero-in on the images. Children with developmental disabilities may benefit from this book as well. It is pediatrician-approved, and has been laboratory tested to meet CPSC safety requirements.
"Focused On Shapes" is made with synthetic material that is nontoxic, waterproof, and tear-resistant. It may be hand washed with mild soap and water, but it should not be washed in the dishwasher or washing machine.
