Our author and illustrator, Kathleen Arthur, was born and raised in the Deep South. She grew up in a home filled with love and laughter on a street named Hillsboro. It was there that she learned the art of humorous storytelling from grown-ups.
Her traditional book illustrations are rendered in acrylic on stretched canvas, while her images for our Pollywogs collection are created digitally.
Kathleen and her family live in the Desert Southwest. When she's not making books, she enjoys playing the piano, working out, cooking, and finding ways to make people smile.

**CANCELLATION** The Tucson Festival of Books 2020 was cancelled to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
Pollywogs are made for children under two years of age. A baby's visual acuity is only 20/400 at one month of age, increasing to around 20/100 at six months of age. The pictures in most children's books are too detailed for babies, so Pollywogs only includes bold, high-contrast images with an emphasis on specific colors. There are no written words in the "Focused On Shapes" book so that babies can zero-in on the images. "Focused Of Nature" has a single descriptive word on each page for the next level of learning. Children with developmental disabilities may benefit from these books as well.
Pollywogs are pediatrician-approved, and have been laboratory tested to meet CPSC safety requirements. They are made with synthetic material that is nontoxic, waterproof, and tear-resistant.
Pollywogs may be hand washed with mild soap and water. They should not be washed in the dishwasher or washing machine.
